"The Day of World Story" from PEN Center of Makedonia

Skopje, 12.12.2007

To the Executive Board of PEN International – London

Dear colleagues,

The Translation and Linguistic Rights Committee of PEN International and its office in Skopje, Macedonia, wants to support the initiative of the Turkish PEN Centre - The Short Story Day (February, 14) to be included in the Calendar of Culture of UNESCO in the near future.

We are supporting this initiative of the Turkish PEN, again in the last few years, because of its purpose:

to highlight the importance of the literature, literature criticism and creativity;

to encourage the fiction writers, the readers, the literary critics, the translators and the publishers all over the world;

to share the literary heritage in the contemporary world;

to open the PEN International to the new literary processes in the world,

to support the new literary styles,

new short story practices, new memory practices, new inter-cultural exchanges;

to promote UNESCO diversity values among short story writers.

Hoping that you will support this old Turkish and TLRC initiative,

I would like to wish you all the best,

Kata Kulavkova Chair of the TLRC of PEN International
